Indore: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has said that State and Central governments are committed to development of sports. She said that sports instill patience and discipline and are useful lifelong. Mahjan stated this at inaugural function of Three-day Asian kho-kho competition at Indore today. For the first time, women’s kho-kho teams are participating in the tournament. Earlier, kho-kho competitions were held in year 1996 and 2000.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan that sports are very important in our lives. Sports not only make people healthy, but also help them enjoy life fully. The state government has effected manifold increase in sports budget. Madhya Pradesh has achieved many successes in sports arena during last 13 years.
Union Minister of State for Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said that Indian culture stands for global brotherhood. Simhastha is holiest religious event which we would celebrate unitedly. Sports are important in life. They lead to human beings’ physical and mental development.
In all, 180 players of 12 teams from six countries including India, Pakistan, Korea, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh are participating in the 3-day kho-kho competition being held jointly by Asian Kho-Kho Federation, Indian Kho-kho and Madhya Bharat Kho-Kho Federation.
President of Indian Kho-Kho Federation Rajiv Mehta, MLAs Mahendra Hardia, Sudarshan Gupta, Ramesh Mendola, Usha Thakur and others were present on the occasion.
