Bhopal: Union Minister Smriti Irani had some awkward moments during an election rally in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday as replying to her query over loan waiver, people in the gathering replied ‘Yes’ the loans have been waived off. In another incident, some alleged BJP workers were booked by police after raising Modi Modi slogans during the roadshow of Digvijaya Singh in Bhopal.

Irani, who was addressing an election rally in Ashoknagar district referred to Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s pre-assembly poll promise of waiving off farm loans in ten days.  She went to ask whether the farm loans were actually waived off, some persons in the crowd shouted aloud ‘yes the loans were waived off’.

The shouting continued for almost half a minute as Irani paused her speech but later started speaking again. A video of the said incident also went viral later in the day. The incident comes in the wake of heated exchanges between the BJP and Congress over loan waiver issue. The BJP is persistently claiming that farm loans haven’t been waived off while the Congress leaders had dropped bundles of 21 lakh names of beneficiaries at Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s home on Tuesday.

The Congress is circulating a list in social media which contains names of those who availed the loan waiver and are from Chouhan’s brother and cousin. Meanwhile, earlier during an election rally in Bina in Sagar district, the union minister Smriti Irani took a dig at frequent power outages in Madhya Pradesh after there was a power cut. “I had heard about the power cuts but today I saw it myself.”
