Bhopal: Before the Special Task Force (STF) formed to probe the sensational honeytrap scandal, the State government dissolved it with 24 hours and a fresh committee has been set up. The State government had on Monday formed the team headed by DIG (CID) D Sriniwas Varma while on Tuesday orders were issued for appointment of fresh team under ADG Sanjiv Shami and also included Indore SSP Ruchivardhan Mishr.
The new team comprises eight officers of the rank of SSP, SP, CSP and Inspectors. Interestingly the order constituting enquiry specified that the team would supervise the case lodged at Palasia police station in Indore. This was the case lodged by police on the complaint of IMC city engineer Harbhajan Singh.
Sources claimed that Varma was not willing to lead the SIT, still the state government entrusted him with the responsibility. However, on Tuesday, Verma, the former DIG Bhopal, made it clear that he was not interested in the SIT, so a fresh team was formed in haste.
Notably, the honeytrap racket was busted by Indore police after an engineer of Indore Municipal Corporation approached police with the complaint of being blackmailed into offering Rs three crore by the gang. The racket is said to have honey-trapped several politicians, bureaucrats and government engineers in the past extorting huge sums of money from them.
Meanwhile, BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on Tuesday also jumped into the debate of high and mighty being involved in the case claiming he knows names of four to five journalists who are involved. He, however, did not name anyone.
Congress media coordinator Narendra Saluja hit back at Vijayvargiya asking him to share the said names with the SIT adding that if he was levelling baseless allegations, it was defaming to the media. Saluja also asked Vijayvargiya to tender an apology for his remarks.
