Bhopal: A separate special scheme of infrastructural upgradation will be prepared to provide maximum civic facilities to the remaining nine municipal corporation cities besides seven municipal corporation cities announced as Smart City in the state. Presiding a meeting of the Board of Directors of Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Company held at Mantralaya on Friday, the Chief Minister Kamal Nath instructed the concerned officers to prepare a scheme in this regard.

The Chief Minister gave instructions for completion of work of water and sewerage schemes costing Rs 3,450 crore in 66 urban bodies till 2020. Kamal Nath said that 7 municipal corporations of the state have been selected by the Government of India in the form of Smart Cities. He gave instructions for preparation of a special work plan for civic facilities in the remaining nine municipal corporation cities–Burhanpur, Morena, Chhindwara, Dewas, Khandwa, Ratlam, Rewa, Katni and Singruali too.

The Chief Minister gave directives to start construction works from the year 2020 to complete sewerage and water augmentation schemes in 66 urban bodies by appointing construction agencies. He asserted that maximum schemes should be prepared with the assistance of expert institutions for infrastructure development of urban areas so that benefit of various schemes of the union government could be received.

Nath further stated that the financial management adopted by those states, which are leading in urban infrastructure development should be studied to adopt better and useful model for the state.

Besides, Nath instructed that the land of all types and built area available with the government offices and institutions should be studied so that better use of land could be made. Bhopal and Indore should be included especially on priority. While giving instructions for preparation of proposal for providing available government land in urban areas to the urban bodies, he said that amount received from the monetization of remaining land will be used for urban infrastructure development.

In context to present scenario, the Chief Minister while emphasizing on understanding the concept of Smart, said that proposals for new townships on the concept of smart city on the boundaries of big cities should be prepared. Keeping in view the pressure of increasing population in big cities, the concept of dispersible city should also be taken into consideration.

The Chief Minister has instructed to construct the government offices of all the cities in the alignment of the proposed ‘Bhopal-Indore New Express-Way’ on both sides of the corridors of the New Express-way. He said that special proposals of new townships should be prepared around the outskirts of the cities in the vicinity of Bhopal and Indore. This will reduce the continuous pressure on the infrastructure in towns like Bhopal and Indore. Simultaneously, the capacity of the city’s current infrastructure will be utilized only in the fixed range.
