Bhopal: Alliance française de Bhopal, the Indo-French cultural centre in collaboration with Global Shapers Community Bhopal hub is hosting a seminar on wildlife and environment conservation on April 4, 2016 at 6 pm in its centre. The event celebrates the environment and the spirit of World Wildlife Day with this year’s theme ‘The future of wildlife is in our hands’. On this occasion, PM Laad, a retired IFS (Indian Forest Services) officer who had a great role in the making of Van Vihar, the National Park in Bhopal established in 1983 will share his experiences as a conservator. He is also an avid bird watcher and photographer.
Born in Betul district, Madhya Pradesh, PM Laad joined the forest services in 1956. He came to Bhopal in 1978. He was involved in establishment of Van Vihar from 1979-83 and has also been a chief conservator. After retirement in 1992, he kept himself busy with his passion for bird watching and photography for which he has travelled all across India except the state of Tripura. His photographs have been used by numerous wildlife and travel magazines and books and he has been awarded numerous honors for the same.
It would be inspiring to hear out an elder in our community of his experience share his views and anecdotes which can make us more aware about our community on some level regarding wildlife. Not only this program aims to raise interest and awareness in matters of our environment but to also recognize and celebrate the work done by the seniors in our community.
Along with him, a fairly young social worker Saurabh Vaity would talk about the lesser known side of climate change and environment. He is a Program Associate at Under the Mango Tree Society (UTMT) working towards protection, conservation and restoration of indigenous bees with the main objective of improving rural livelihoods by training and educating farmers about beekeeping.
