Ujjain: A sain participating in Simhastha here was seriously injured on Saturday night after some unidentified miscreants attacked him. In past 24 hours many such incidents including thefts have been reported in the Mela area. Someone attacked the sadhu Tapasvi Giri with a sharp weapon near Bhukhi Mata temple, injuring him seriously. The sage has been hospitalised. Besides, late on Saturday night, a motorcade of sadhus was attacked at two places, resulting in damage to the vehicles, said the police officer. Incidents of theft have also been reported from the Simhastha Kumbh pilgrimage site. Sadhus participating in the pilgrimage have been much agitated by these incidents. On Sunday, they took out a march and blocked traffic to protest the incidents of violence and thefts. Sunday is the third day of Simhastha Kumbh that would conclude on May 21.
Meanwhile, Minister in-charge of Ujjain district Bhupendra Singh has directed to ensure proper treatment of saints and devotees during Simhastha. Singh gave these directives during inspection of Charak Hospital and civil hospital at Ujjain on Sunday. Singh met patients and enquired about treatment. He also inspected wards set up for disaster management. The Minister enquired health officers about district hospital, sector and zone offices and health services. He also directed to install air-conditioners at temporary hospitals for convenience of health staff and save patients from heat
It was informed that so far, patients have undergone treatment in temporary hospitals set up by Health Department in Simhastha Mela area. Doctors, medicines and 45 ambulances (108 Service) are available to provide treatment 24-hours. For malaria control, 26 fogging machines are spraying insecticides regularly.
