Gwalior: Opposing the withdrawal of SPG protection for Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed with Gwalior bench of Madhya Pradesh high court here on Monday seeking restoration of the special security cover. The HC has scheduled the matter for hearing on November 15.
Referring to media reports, advocate Umesh Kumar Bohre in the PIL has claimed that following the Centre’s decision to remove SPG cover from the three senior leaders, they are now given Z plus security cover. The list of respondents includes Principal Secretary of PMO, Secretary Home Department, Director Home ministry and Secretary Ministry of Defence.
The petitioner opposed the removal of SPG protection saying two members of the Gandhi family already have been killed in the past. Quoting intelligence inputs, the lawyer claimed that the Gandhi family still requires the SPG security cover. The security cover was still withdrawn which was called as a vendetta by the Congress leaders, claimed the petitioner.
Few days ago, the Centre had decided to withdraw elite SPG cover from Congress president Sonia Gandhi, his son Rahul and daughter Priyanka Gandhi. The trio has been offered Z plus security cover of the CRPF on all India basis.
