Bhopal: Minister for Urban Development and Housing Maya Singh said that Metro is a dream project of the Chief Minister. Hence, bring pace in the process and implement it to make it an example before the country. She directed to simplify the procedure of making illegal colonies legal as per the intention of the chief minister. She also directed to provide potable water and drainage facilities in these colonies. She was reviewing the activities under the Metro Project, Mukhyamantri Potable Water and Mukhyamantri Urban Infrastructure Development programme here today. Principal Secretary Urban Development and Housing Malay Shrivastava was present in the meeting.

Singh said that we should conduct extensive study of the shortcomings of the metro project of other states in order to make it best setting an example in the country before its implementation. She emphasized on pace of the metro project to facilitate the people and to pave way for other cities.

The Minister while reviewing the Mukhyamantri Urban Potable water scheme said that availability of potable water to all is a promise of vision document. We should speed up the works in order to realise the intention of chief minister. We should keep an eye over the quality of works and must ensure that such works should be completed within a stipulated time limit. Concerned officers should be made accountable for their respective areas. Singh said attention should also be paid towards providing potable water in the illegal colonies besides other areas.

Moreover, Singh asserted to pay attention towards time in implementation of Mukhyamantri Urban Infrastructure Development programme. She said that project cost goes up due to delay, which results in loss to the state government and the people suffer due to the unavailability of the facilities.

Commissioner Urban development Vivek Agarwal informed that two corridors of 27.87 km costing Rs 6,962.92 crore are proposed in the first phase of the Metro Project. The commissioned year for the project is 2016-17 and the completion year is 2021-22. He further informed that one 31.55 km long corridor costing Rs 7,522.63 crore will be constructed in Indore in the first phase. Under the Mukhyamantri Urban Potable Water Scheme, 138 potable water schemes are underway in 146 urban bodies. Out of these 24 have completed and work is in progress under 93 schemes.
