Bhopal: Rashtriya Kamdhenu center of North India is being established at Keeratpur (Itarsi) of Hoshangabad. Assembly Speaker Sitasaran Sharma and Minister for Animal Husbandry Antar Singh Arya performed bhoomi-poojan of center being constructed on 80 acre of land. The center will be completed with two years. Sanction has been given by the union government to set up two Rashtriya Kamdhenu centers in the country. One will be set up at Andhra Pradesh for southern region and the other is being established at Keeratpur (Madhya Pradesh) for northern region. An amount of Rs 25 crore has been released by the union government for this center being constructed in Madhya Pradesh State Animal Breeding region Keeratpur. The state Pashudhan and Kukkut Vikas Corporation will construct this center.

It may be mentioned that center is being developed as the animal breeding center of national level. Wherein certified germ plasma of high heritability of domestic breeds will be available. Conservation of breeds, promotion and upgradation of 39 cows and 13 buffalo breed are included. Fifteen breeds each of cows and buffaloes have been selected in the first phase.

Semen center and IVF laboratory to make available semen, fetus, heifer of high heritability bulls of domestic breeds to the cattle keepers and animal husbandry will be established in the center institutions. High quality milking animals will enhance in the state and the country due to improvement in the breeds of cows and buffalos. This will increase milk production besides quality and impact of milk products.
