Bhopal: Minimum wages of Rs 172 per day will be given to job card holder labourers in Madhya Pradesh under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act Scheme from April 1, 2017. Currently, minimum wages of Rs. 167 per day is fixed under the scheme. Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development Gopal Bhargava has issued directives to inform MNREGA labourers about the payment of wages on increased rates effective from April 1, 2017. The Union Government has fixed the minimum rate of MNREGA labour state wise in its notification issued on February 28, 2017 effective April 1, 2017. Commissioner Madhya Pradesh State Employment Guarantee Council Smt. G.V. Rashmi in her detailed directives to all the Chief Executive Officers-Jila Panchayat has stated to undertake wide publicity in Janpad Panchayats and Gram Panchayats of their working areas about new minimum wages under MNREGA. Also directives have been issued to display information about the amended minimum rates on the notice board in office of each gram panchayats.

It may be mentioned that MNREGA is being implemented in all the 51 districts of Madhya Pradesh. About 62 lakh 89 thousand job card holder labourers are registered in the scheme. A total of 936. 85 lakh man days have been created till today in the current financial year 2016-2017. Out of these, employment of 150.42 lakh man days to scheduled caste labourers and 329.36 lakh man days to scheduled tribe labourers have been given. Women labourers comprise 41.76 percent of the total MNREGA labourers in the current financial year. Employment of 391.31 lakh man days have been provided to them.
