Bhopal: Governor Lalji Tandon has emphasised on concerted efforts by all private and government universities to get NAAC grading to improve the quality of higher education in the state. A joint workshop of vice-chancellors of all private and government universities will be organized at Raj Bhavan on September 15, in which the Chairman of University Grants Commission will also take part.
The concept of NAAC grading process will be discussed in the joint workshop. The updated status of NAAC grading of universities will be reviewed. A comparative status with other universities of the country will be taken into consideration. An action plan will be chalked out to move the universities from the present situation to the next phase.
Quality has a profound impact on NAAC grading, so special attention will be given to cleanliness of the university campus, well-equipped labs and libraries, water and energy conservation and self-reliance. The road map will also be prepared by the university after setting the target as to what level and at what stage it can reach. All universities will be given guidance for grading assessment. A time-bound action plan will also be prepared according to the grading process. Barkatullah University will coordinate the joint workshop.
Tandon had told the vice-Chancellors of the universities in the first discussion itself to make the work culture result-oriented. The tendency to not produce results due to lack of resources has to be changed. He had said that there is no dearth of resources for those moving ahead with the changing time.
The University can have a lot of resources through the Grading of University Grants Commission, NAAC and RUSA, new projects and various schemes run by the Central government. The need is to work with progressive and positive thinking. Universities should plan their financial sources in such a way that 50 percent by their own means and the remaining 25 percent each should be generated from the government and other heads. A university that will have high quality research and job-oriented education will never lack resources.
