Bhopal: Public Health and Family Welfare Department is doing all possible effort to control the dengue fever. From January this year total 188 cases of Dengue has been registered in 23 districts, out of which 18 cases are registered in July. Department is constantly monitoring all districts to control the dengue fever. Besides, department is also conducting various awareness programs in rural areas to create awareness among peoples. Out of total 188 cases of dengue reported 97 cases are reported in Sehore district which is highest, followed by 20 in Bhopal district, 19 in Indore, 9 in Jabalpur, 6 in Anuppur, 5 in Damoh, 4 in Sagar, 3 in Raisen, 2 in Katni district and one case in each district including Shivpuri, Khandwa, Dindouri, Mandla, Chhindwara, harda, Vidisha, Seoni, Shahdol, Singrauli and Gwalior. Only one death due to dengue is reported in Raisen district in July.

Facility of dengue checking is available in 4 medical collages including Gwalior, Jabalpur, Indore and Bhopal. Besides, 26 distrcit hospitals also have the facility to check dengue fever including Khandwa, Betul, Sagar, Guna, Shivpuri, Umaria, Ratlam, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Mandsour, Katni, Chhatarpur, Harda, Khargaon, Morena, Neemuch, Raisen, Rajgarh, Chhindwara, Satna, Ujjain, Vidisha and JP Hospital Bhopal. Apart from these dengue can also be checked in AIIMS Bhopal, BMHRC Bhopal, RMACT Jabalpur, and district Malaria offices in Bhopal.

Dengue fever is caused due to the Den virus. Special treatment of dengue is not available. Dengue is treated on the basis of symptoms observed. 95% cases of dengue fever is like normal fever. Only 5% cases falls under the critical category. Platelet count is reduced in patients suffering from dengue fever causing dengue hemorrhagic fever or existence of dengue shock syndrome may lead to the death of patient. Less than 20000 counts of platelets in blood may lead to critical situation.

Automatic machines to count the number of platelets are available in every district of the state. This machine helps to identify the seriousness of dengue fever, based on which proper treatment can be provided to patients. Prevention tips are being communicated to masses in rural areas by health workers. Department has ensured sufficient availability of temephos (Larvicide) and pyrethrum (insecticide) in every district. Union government has supplied sufficient quantity of medical kits from National Bacteria Organization, Pune.

Health department is conducting campaign in all districts of the state to destroy larva. Wherever cases of dengue are reported, spray of pyrethrum in respective villages to kill mosquitoes is being done along with the destroying of larva present in the area. Since mosquito causing dengue – Aedes is also found in clean water accumulated in coolers, tanks, tyre, drums, etc, these are also being checked in urban areas. Even in urban areas and villages water is being checked to identify the presence of larva.

Health Minister Rustam Singh has raised an appeal to the people that mosquito responsible for causing dengue bites during day hours, to avoid this people should wear clothes of full sleeves and specially children. Dengue larva is mostly found in clean water so accumulation of water in coolers, etc should be monitored regularly to avoid any sort of illness. A droop of edible oil shall be mixed in water accumulation sources, as oil will create a layer which will not allow mosquitoes to flourish, he added.
