Jabalpur: Governor Anandiben Patel said that the interest of youths in agriculture will have to be developed. Opportunities will have be increased in setting up of agriculture based industries, linking students with advanced agriculture, production of commercial crops in scientific manner and employment generation programmes.
Youths will attract towards villages because of this and their interest towards small jobs in cities will be reduced. The Governor was addressing the 15th convocation of Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University in Jabalpur.
The Governor said that life style in Indian environment cannot be imagined without agriculture. Farmers will be benefited by agri-based industry to be set up by youths and they will get fair price for crops. They will not need to go outside village for selling crops. Employment opportunities will rise. The governor said that graduates in agriculture should focus on setting up their own enterprise and contribution in agriculture development rather than getting job.
She said that Agriculture University should tie up with selected educational institutes of the country and abroad. The governor conferred upon honorary degree of doctor of science to former director general of the highest agriculture institute ICAR and former vice chancellor of JNKVV and chancellor of Rani Laxmibai Central University of Agriculture, Jhansi Prof Punjab Singh. The governor awarded gold medals, cash awards and degrees to students.
Post graduation degree to 306 students of agriculture and agriculture engineering faculty and PhD to 28 students were conferred upon in the convocation. Thirteen students were awarded with gold medals/cash awards. The governor distributed fruits and books to students of primary school and feted chairperson of Maan Vaishnavi Self Help Group, Mandala Indu Dubey by presenting shawl, shriphal and memento. Prof Punjab Singh also addressed the function. Vice Chancellor Pradip Kumar Bisen delivered welcome speech and report.
