Bhopal: A debt-ridden farmer has ended his life in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh late on Tuesday night. The police have recovered a suicide note from the pocket of the deceased and they are verifying it. The incident has been reported from village Saikhedi in Silwani block of Raisen district, adjacent to the State capital.
The family of the deceased farmer Tulsiram Sahu, claimed that the farmer who owned four acre land had secured several lakhs as loans from local money lenders but could not repay anything as the heavy rains destroyed his crops completely.
Locals also alleged that the farmer was pestered by the money lenders for recovery of their loans. Hassled by the pressure, the farmer allegedly hanged himself to death on Tuesday night. Police after receipt of information reached the village concerned and recorded statements of the family.
Superintendent of Police of Raisen district Monika Shukla told that in the suicide note, the deceased has named three persons who had been harassing him and demanded action against them. These three persons belong to the farmer’s extended family, she added. The officer further said that farmer’s son is saying that there was some loan from the banks, but the police are yet to verify the details.
Notably, Madhya Pradesh government has proposed over Rs 6,000 crore as flood relief and has forwarded the proposal to the centre. However, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and ruling Congress are locked in bitter war of words over delay in flood relief from the Centre.
