Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Thursday witnessed an adjournment for 10 minutes following a ruckus by main opposition Congress members over their demand for a discussion on drinking water crisis in the state. Soon after the proceedings got underway today, Congress members created a pandemonium and sought discussion on the problem of drinking water in the state. Deputy Leader of Opposition Bala Bachchan and Congress member Ramniwas Rawat pointed out that the issue was not included for discussion in today’s agenda and alleged that the Government is trying to escape from discussion on issues concerned with public welfare. Several Congress members stood on their places and created a ruckus.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra said the regime would furnish its reply over the issue after the lunch recess. However, Congress members dug in their heels and persisted for a discussion under rule 139. Speaker Sitasaran Sharma tried to pacify opposition members by pointing out that discussion on drinking water problem has already taken place during the Session through calling attention notices on five occasions. However, unrelenting Congress members trooped into the well raising slogans. Amid the din, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings for 10 minutes.
When the House re-assembled, Bachchan reiterated the Opposition’s demand for a discussion. As Mishra consented to the demand, the Speaker scheduled the discussion to be taken up following the lunch recess.
