Bhopal: Chief Minister Kamal Nath here on Tuesday announced that his government would formulate a new law to ensure 70 per cent private jobs in the State to locals. The announcement came in MP assembly during question hour on Tuesday. BJP MLA Yashpal Singh Sisodia had raised a query whether local candidates are preferred in jobs in nearby states saying the MP domicile candidates suffer double whammy as outside candidates getting preference in jobs in Madhya Pradesh due to anomalies of rules.

As Minister for General Administration Govind Singh was replying, Nath intervened. The Chief Minister said states like West Bengal, Maharashtra and Gujarat deliberately keep one question paper in local language in competitive exams and our student lose out due to this. “We are pondering over a law to ensure local candidates are preferred in jobs,” Nath added.

The Chief Minister also cited example of his earlier decision in which the MP government has announced to offer 70 per cent jobs in new industries to locals. These would be industries which avail financial help and other incentives from the state government. An order dated Dec 14, 2018 makes it clear that locals would be preferred in jobs, he said adding the Industry Promotion Policy 2014 also specifies that those industries which avail benefits of government schemes are bound to offer 70 per cent jobs to locals.

Law minister PC Sharma later speaking to the media also claimed MP government would be formulating a law to prefer locals in jobs. The minister however did not specify modalities of the said law. Nath had announced 70 per cent industrial jobs to locals the day he had assumed office as Chief Minister in December 2018.
