Bhopal: Principal Secretary Woman and Child Development Anupam Rajan inspected Bhimnagar Anganwadi under World Breastfeeding Week. He said that breastfeeding should be started to the child within an hour of birth. It is the right of every child. He said that the doctor, nursing staff, family members and the husband has to give this right to the child. Rajan said that it is our responsibility to make this information available to every family.

Anupam Rajan said that at present, only 30 percent out of 100 women breastfeed their newborns soon after birth. He said that mother’s milk is very important for the development of child’s brain. It increases the immunity of the child and also protects him from many types of infections.

The Principal Secretary informed that various activities are being organized by the Woman and Child Development Department to make people aware and understand the importance of breastfeeding for the child. In this chain, information is being given about the importance of breastfeeding within an hour of birth through rallies, discussions with self-help groups and at the choupal of Sarpanch and Panchayat representatives throughout the week. He said that in an innovative idea, anganwadi workers tie friendship bands to pregnant women and their family members displaying the importance of breastfeeding and will take a promise from them that all children will be fed with the mother’s milk within an hour of birth.
