Bhopal: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) tried to balance the regional satraps by declaring Kamal Nath as PCC Chief, four acting presidents and Jyotiraditya Scindia as election campaign committee chairman. It is believed that the appointment of Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Member of Parliament from Guna, as the campaign committee chairman will give the party a strong face against three-term BJP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Political observers feel that Nath has the capacity to take along all senior leaders, including Digvijay Singh, Scindia, Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh, Suresh Pachouri, Kantilal Bhuria, Arun Yadav and others. Congress leaders in Madhya Pradesh feel that the balancing responsibility to both Nath and Scindia would certainly bring better results in the next assembly elections in the State. However, surprisingly, both the leaders did not congratulate each other on the appointment. Of course, their tweets were visible regarding appointments in Madhya Pradesh.

Besides, the appointment of four acting presidents in the PCC is considered a new experiment in Madhya Pradesh after success in Chhattisgarh.

There have been talks of internal factionalism in the party and its workers are said to be divided among four factions — headed by general secretary Digvijay Singh, Nath, Scindia and Suresh Pachori. Analysts feel the internal division could hurt the party’s prospects in the assembly polls due later this year.

Soon after Naths appointment news spread, MP Congress’ Chief spokesman KK Mishra expressed confidence that under the leadership of Kamal Nath, the party will work unitedly to form a government in the state.
