Bhopal: Voting for tribal-dominated areas picked up after a slow start and the final percent till 5 pm was recorded at 61.9 per cent. A total of 56.64 per cent polling was recorded till 3 pm during Jhabua assembly bypoll. This is for the first that the constituency is seeing a bypoll after its formation. Voting for Jhabua bypoll started at 7am on Monday and will conclude 5 pm.
Apart from BJP and Congress, three candidates including a rebel from the safrron party are in the fray. In Jhabua assembly, around 2.77 lakh voters are registered, who will cast their votes at 356 polling booths including 34 in Alirajpur district.
Voting for Jhabua assembly seat was necessitated after sitting BJP MLA GS Damor was elected to Lok Sabha from Jhabua-Ratlam seat in last general elections. For Congress, CM Kamal Nath held three public meetings while former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed seven public meetings for BJP during 15 days of campaigning that concluded on Saturday.
