Bhopal: In a major development, 17 rebel MLAs of Congress including six ministers reportedly reached Bengaluru on Monday afternoon. These legislators and the ministers reportedly belong to senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia camp. In the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly, the Congress has 114 MLAs, followed by the BJP with 107. Seventeen MLAs going missing would pose a serious threat to the Kamal Nath government.
Out of the 17, six ministers who from the Madhya Pradesh cabinet flew in via three chartered planes on Monday afternoon. Amidst the crisis, Chief Minister Kamal Nath who had flown to Delhi on Monday morning to meet Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi to discuss the political upheaval that his government, returned to Bhopal at around 6.30 pm.
Till the filing of the report, ministers had started reaching Chief Minister’s residence, where in the presence of former chief minister Digvijay Singh and Rajya Sabha member Vivek Tankha, to meet discussing the political scenario.
Earlier, in New Delhi, after meeting AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi, Nath told media persons that he would act according to the guidance he has received from Congress president. When asked about the internal rift with Scindia, Nath seemingly evaded the question.
Party sources said that the Kamal Nath government is facing crisis, as Scindia has refused to intervene in the matter of MLAs allegedly being poached by the BJP. Scindia was called to rein control of the situation but he allegedly refused to intervene. Sources further said that claiming to be not well, Scindia skipped the meeting with Nath and Sonia Gandhi.
