Bhopal: Section of Mayor-in-Council with fixing accountability of the officers have been reconstituted in all 16 municipal corporations in the state, keeping in mind the public convenience. Informing in this regard, Minister for Urban Administration and Housing Maya Singh said, the decision would bring uniformity in working in municipal corporations. Minister Maya Singh said administrative structure in municipal corporations had been made more accountable, as per the expectations of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. It will facilitate public for getting their works done in municipal corporations. Ten departments had been constituted with their officer in-charge by an amendment in Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Rule 1998, and their responsibility had been defined clearly.

The departments which were increased by the amendment, include general administration department in which additional commissioner, deputy commissioner will be in-charge. This branch will take care of works related with legal, public relations, census, social, cultural activities, infrastructure, city safety, internal safety, record keeping, human resource cell. Chief engineer or superintendenting engineer will be in-charge of water works and sewerage departments. Works related with water supply, distribution, sewerage will be carried out by the works. Chief engineer or superintending engineer will be in-charge in public works and horticulture department. Works related with roads, surface drainage, fly over, culverts, constructions and horticulture included. Additional commissioner or deputy commissioner will be in-charge in revenue department in which works related with property, shop registration, rent management, market and temporary intervention will be carried out. Additional or deputy commissioner (finance and accounts) will be in-charge of finance and account department. The section will conduct works related with budget, accounts and auditing. Executive engineer or assistant engineer will be in-charge in electric and engineer department. Electric and engineering works will be carried out.

Chief sanitation officer will be in-charge of sanitation and solid waste management and that will work for solid waste management, public toilets, cleaning of drains and streets, health protection, food adulteration and licence, birth and death registration. Traffic and transportation department will be headed by deputy commissioner (traffic) and it will work for public transport, traffic management and parking related works. Additional or deputy commissioner will be in-charge of planning and Information Technology department. The section will work for planning, urban land management, encroachment and information technology related tasks. Deputy commissioner will be in-charge of urban poverty alleviation department. The branch will works for implemention of urban poverty eradication schemes, slums, welfare, rehabilitation and social welfare works.

Urban development minister Maya Singh informed that strict action will be taken against officers accountable, branch heads, for any dereliction, after distribution of works and fixing accountability.
