Notification for Buddhist University

Bhopal: Notification has been issued for establishment of Sanchi Buddhist and Indian Knowledge Studies University in Madhya Pradesh. Following ratification by Governor Ram Naresh Yadav, ordinance to the effect has been published in the State Gazette. The university will be headquartered at Sanchi. Foundation stone for its premises will be laid at Sanchi on September 21. Culture Minister Laxmikant Sharma informed that the university will promote studies and research aiming at coordination between Buddhist and Indian knowledge, Indian culture’s fundamental principles & concepts and various cultures and civilizations of the world. It will teach principles of Dhamma, Buddhist and contemporary philosophies and traditions. The university will promote world peace and harmony by bringing historical similarities in Asian countries’ religions, philosophies and cultures on a single platform.
The university will also aims at coordination between Asian countries’ educational systems, making efforts for evolving a new viewpoint on alternative educational system, imparting teaching and training in various Asian arts, sculpture and skills. Ensuring participation of scholars and willing persons of Asia and world for fulfilling the university’s objectives is also its objective. Sanchi Buddhist and Indian Knowledge Studies University may cooperate with any institution outside the state or in the world. A library focusing on Buddhist and Indian knowledge and culture will also be established, which will make available physical and digital literature.
State’s Governor will be the university’s Chancellor. University’s General Council will select a Vice-Chancellor of international repute for three years. Appointment of Registrar will be made for four years on the recommendation of the State Government. The university will have a General Council, Executive Council and Arts Council. The Chief Minister will be General Council’s chairman, Vice-Chancellor vice-chairman and the Culture Minister will be its Member-Secretary. Members of the General Council will include two scholars of Indian and Buddhist philosophies and six members from arts, science, literature and folk life sectors.
The Culture Minister informed that preparations for foundation laying function on the university premises are in the final stage. He said that establishment of Buddhist University is historic initiative of Madhya Pradesh. He informed that an international Dharma and Dhamma Conference will also be held on September 22 and 23 at Bhopal.
